Hey,

I recently built myself a computer

*LINK HERE*

Had all been going fine since then... but I noticed many of my files downloading were randomly failing and some ended up corrupt - wasn't too much of an issue, just set them to download again and they eventually downloaded successfully.

Recently my computers internet speed has dropped drastically (wireless connection) - with internet speeds of virtually nothing for long stretches of time, my old computer has also started having slower than average speeds but is still usable - a good 15x the internet speed of my new computer.

At first I thought it had to be malware - scanned all files - nothing - downloaded and ran malwarebytes - still nothing... decided the only course of action was to restore the computer from a previous backup - tried to restore it but for some reason it failed, telling me my antivirus was likely preventing a successful restoration.

Then I realised the downloads corrupting and the internet speed issues might be linked - searched around and found that this might be a RAM issue, having previously suspected the RAM for my POST failure when initially booting up my PC for the first time but then finding as far as I can tell that it just needed to be removed and put back in again - seemed reasonable that my RAM could be faulty but have no idea what to do from there.

I also stumbled across the idea that my old router could be less compatible with my new computer - but that wouldn't explain the recent slow down in speeds unless it has magnified my recent internet speed slowdown.

Please could someone with a better knowledge of computers tell me what they would do in this situation?

Also if I find that I must restore my PC from a backup - Do I need to recreate/re-download all the programs/games/files or can I safely back them up and reinstall without the chance of the malware re-infecting my computer? (if my internet speed issue is indeed malware)

Thanks your your time.

I worked out what was wrong, the wireless adapter plugged into my PC for my 360 pad was effectively jamming the routers signal... good job I don't play any online games with the 360 pad :)

- Yes I know that it is possible to change my routers channel

Thanks for your help
