Data recovery after format and re-install?

One of my boss's has lost all his photo's and doc's (stored in My Documents - Vista).
His numpty nephew decided the way to fix a non functioning wireless adaptor was to format and install a hooky version of Win7

Is there any software likely to recover the lost data? Luckly the 7 install is pretty bare so hopefully it hasnt been overwritten? who knows.

Sugestions please (under £200 if poss)

I doubt any software on the market can recover any data that has been overwritten. In general I've always had good success with GetDataBack but I couldn't recover anything at all after a format and install of an OS over it. I guess the only way is through data recovery companies but that will cost an arm and a leg!

Try piriform recuva, you might be able to get some data back and it's free, if its been overwritten its possible to recover still, but very expensive and very time consuming.

If it has been overwritten it is IMPOSSIBLE to recover.

I have never been able to recover stuff from a formatted and overwritten drive
