Data recovery software for a damaged harddrive

I've got harddrive from a laptop which has been dropped and want to get the data from it.

Using the Corsairs 650D harddrive mount, I plug the harddrive in while Windows is running. However Explorer just hangs forever.

When the harddrive is installed in the laptop, the laptop sits for a few minutes before stating it can't find a boot disk.

Is there any software to help me, or should I just admit defeat and bin the harddrive?

Could try TestDisk which has always worked well for me in the past.
