My OS drive failed a few weeks ago, got some new drives and windows running again so now to try and recover the data from my old drive now connected via eSATA.
Its partitions are all screwed up and overlapping and possibly may have died properly (kept coming up with bad disk errors).
At present it connects fine and has an empty 10mb partition (drive is 370gb).

So, what recovery software is good and (preferably) free!?

I'm trying to use TestDisk right now. I was having a few problems using it in W7 so booted it from a GParted liveCD. My question is how do you change the directory it copies files to? At the moment its /dev/home or something but since I'm booting from a liveCD I dont know where the files will go so wanted to change it to one of my other hard drives but cant see an option to change it.

edit: Nevermind, found it.

I was using TestDisk to copy files off the drive occasionally I got a read error but unplugging the sata cable and plugging it back in used to fix it. Now I cant do anything because it keeps giving me the read error, any ideas?
