Gentlemen, a friend of mine has somehow lost a vital document and needs to find it again, but I'm unaware of any data recovery software.

If anyone can recommend any applications for this, it would be much appreciated.
 
If it's a Vista or 7 computer, if you right-click in the folder, go to properties and tries 'previous versions' - this might work.

If not then have a look at this http://www.piriform.com/recuva. I have used this a couple of times, it's OK, but you need to make sure he hasn't written over the sector the file was stored, eg, downloaded some educational films etc etc
 
d'oh, Recuva. Should have remembered that since I use defraggler and ccleaner.

Thanks a lot for the Previous Versions tip in the right click context menu, too. Hopefully one of these will work.
