i have used ontack easy recovery before, but my version does not work on win7. is there anything that people would recommend for getting files/folders that have either been deleted/formatted, or on a corrupt hard drive?

thanks.

The GetDataBack suite has never failed me, though it is not free.

You could try Recuva, but I don't 'think' it's quite as in-depth.

I have used this a few times on usb sticks and once on a hard drive. It Has never let me down, works great and there is a free version!

How good are these for formatted drives that have had a new OS installed on them?

Just reinstalled Windows an old machine and realised I'd left some old emails on it (everything else backed up except the outlook folder), not majorly important... but it would be nice to have them! :)

i have found some are better than other. easy recovery is rubbish if you have formatted as it will not give the files their original name, will just dump all of each file type in a folder and name it 1, 2, 3 etc. so you would have a jpg folder, with all your jpgs (including any from temp internet files) named 1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3.jpg.......so not ideal for things like outlook.
getdataback seems to find the original file structure and put it back in the original folders etc, but i have only used it once so not sure how good it is at finding things.
