Data storage server: CPU power usage?

Ok here it is guys. Im looking to build a server for data storage and other low cpu intensive purposes.

Now the processor and other specs im really not bothered about, IE i dont need or want a massivly powerfull system. So my first concern is CPU power usage. I am looking to get either a Socket A or 754 motherboard, and to have a minimum processor speed of 1GHz.

My question is this. Out of all the processors that fit either of the sockets, which uses the least amount of power on load or idle? Im more concerned with idle power usage as the CPU will be idle most of the time.

What would the wise members of OcUK recommend?

EDIT: Have searched and googled and cant seem to find any conclusive stats.
 
What kind of budget do you have?

Perhaps look at a Pentium M solution as these are very low power and a 1.3GHz Banias core P-M should be cheap at auction

Otherwise the Via C3 and AMD Geodo chips don't use much power but they are very slow

A cheap Sempron could also be an alternative, one of the newer 90nm ones in particular
 
Well i can budget for up to £500 for everything. It wont need a gfx card as the mobo will have onboard video that will do for the few occassions that warrent rigging a monitor to it. VNC will suffice for the rest of the time.

Id like to stick with AMD if possible, but if people belive an intel chip to be better i shall take your advice.

I like the idea of a sempron chip. One of the Sempron 64 2600 chips go quite cheap. they any good?
 
I was unaware that the turion chips could be bought seperatly now? I take it they are S754?

Can anyone cofirm this? Because google is still providing little help... :(

:eek: My word. Thats mental! Might think about underclocking a little then, just in the interest of power saving.
