OK i just got a PS3 slim and thank god for the data transfer thingy built in!

A far superior solution to MS's you need to buy a cable from them which can take 10 days, and you can't use your new Elite until then!

I got an Elite just after Christmas and ended up redownloading everything off Live, and transferring only essential saves via a memory card i bought not long after the 360 came out.

PS3 solution isn't 100% perfected yet, like needing to manually go deactivate your console and make sure your trophies are synced, but other than that, it is a joy! (and the fact it is gonna take about 40 mins to transfer 40GB of data, but that is to be expected).

So, wee pat on the back for Sony, as they actually done something right, which seems to be a bit unusual for them lol

Data transfer - how does that work then? Can you get two PS3's to talk to each other and transfer stuff???

what have they been doing constantly wrong to make this such a surprise ?

being able to transfer data is hardly anything special is it. same with the web browser. god knows why ms have never added them

Plug the two of them together with an ethernet cable and you transfer the entire contents of the old machine to the new machine.

You can't move data back and forth though, it's just a straight wipe to a new machine, but least it doesn't require a stupid cable you need to buy and wait for.

So it wipes all the data off the old machine?
