Hello,

I'm about to buy a new laptop which comes with vista home premium but am currently running a machine with xp home....I will need to transfer all my data across so a couple of questions;

1. Is is possible for me to transfer directly from machine to machine using a standard crossover cable or will it need to be copied via an external device?

2. Is it true that mp3's which have been bought from iTunes are non-transferable and I'd need to buy them again? I only have a few so am not hugely bothered if the don't copy.

Ta

Regarding the crossover cable I unsure, but itunes surely you could copy the music to your ipod (if you have one) and then import into the new itunes library on the new computer.

Correct me if i am wrong guys!

yup a cross over cable is what you need to directly connect 2 pcs. a normal patch cable wouldn't work. :)

you certainly don't have to buy those songs again. i don't use itunes so check the help files. i'm sure you can transfer the files easily enough. worst case scenario would involve you downloading them again - this won't cost as i'm pretty sure they're registered to your account.

You can just copy them over. When you open them in iTunes, it'll ask for your username and password to authorize the new machine to play them.

moving your iTunes music should be easy enough, just put them on your new computer and when you try and play them, just type in your username and password.
