I know a number of people have had the problem since back in 2005 and Valve insist its not a Steam problem although from what I've read it only ever happens for people playing games on the Steam platform.

Anyway to cut a long story short, after quite a while of researching I've found that I'm one of the unfortunate people that is having this problem. I was wondering if any of you have come across a fix of some kind, or maybe some kind of work-around?

Tried that lots of times, Tried deleting clientregistry.blob, Reinstalled it all a gagillion times, sent Valve all the information they wanted about 6-7 months ago had very little support in reply. I've done it all, even down to scraping the barrel and seeing if things like playing with the original discs help or not aswell as removing firewalls etc.

I have formatted numerous times since the problem, I had motherboard failures a few months back. (that was a nightmare)

I've deleted the game files in various different ways, I also get the same crash when downloading source games so recreating/reinstalling is painful aswell, and you're right it is only source games that does it.

I'll check out that link now, thanks very much.

Edit: Bah, link didnt fix it, 2 crashed to desktop, 2 complete system crashes.

I havent had this problem since 05, its been a known issue since then, I've had it 6-7 months since changing motherboards, ram and numerous other components.

Intel Dual Core 2 6600 @ 2.4ghz
2gb DDR2 Ram
ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2 Socket 775 8 Channel Audio AGP PCI-E ATX Mobo
Radeon 9800xt :(

Motherboard failures were booting issues, there was a fault with one of the hard-drive plugs on the board side. All my other games are stable, some other steam games crash with various errors (allot less than source games though), but all my non-steam games run perfectly. My computer rarely crashes apart from above problems.

I can post a minidump report if you wish, the only other error info is what I can get from the generic "This program has crashed" window, which is basically all here apart from the jargon but I can paste that to if it'll help you help me. :)
