Now, I joined one just before Christmas 2006, and have since (through the site and through really getting into dancing this past year) massively expanded my social circle, met lots of new interesting people, and had a bit of fun with one or two. Sadly met no other-half as yet though I don't regard this as a failure 
However!
I am now rather familiar with most of the local faces on this website (www.okcupid.com), and while a couple of new ones pop up now and again, the interesting people left are starting to become distinctly un-local!
So what other sites are worth sticking a profile up on? Faceparty doesn't feel right to me, before that's suggested, as it somehow seems a lot more shallow.
Also I don't wish to pay money for a dating service, because that would turn this into some weird time-limited partner-hunting thing as opposed to what I am trying to do; just widen my net and see what happens.
I feel no shame in this by the way, before anyone tells me I should be meeting men in sweaty loud clubs or through friends. A girl likes to know what's out there
