Hi all,

Looking to join David Lloyd, just wondering if anyone here has a membership there and could say how much they are paying? (also if there is more than 1 of you in the household and are getting a deal)

Doing some searching it seems there are variable rates? I am being quoted £110 per month () for 12 month contract. This is for a David Lloyd in London.

Thanks

Sounds about right for a chain like that in London unfortunately.

Try looking for a smaller non chain gym, FF used a brilliant looking one in Greenwich IIRC if that's an option.

3 months notice too. Daylight robbery.

This is an area the Government ideally would put money in to and make some affordable Gyms for people to use.

They want to promote healthy living well they can start by putting some of the tax payers money in to these sorts of affordable gyms.

Crikey - I bought 185kg of Oly weights and a squat rack to use at home for the equivalent of 3 months membership!

I was thinking the same, you could get a pretty sweet home gym (if you've got room) for a lot less than the annual cost.

I think it's worth mentioning that David Lloyd and other big chains are generally overpriced and filled mostly with cardio equipment. There's got to be a lower priced gym available, even in London :p

Most council run leisure centres and sports grounds will have (generally) reasonably priced gyms already. Also if there is a university nearby then they normally have very good deals as well for non students.

Your home gym won't have a large pool, steam room, saunas, various free classes and a multitude of other options places like DL have so not really comparable to a few weights is it :p.

DL may also allow you access to tennis and squash courts. Not everyone goes to the gym just to pound weights, especially somewhere like DL which likes to position itself at the higher end of the gym world. :p

OP depending on where you are there should be lots of local council run gyms. Also the Westway is a great sports centre if you're near that (although I have no idea what the gym is like there as I used to go climbing there instead).

I was with DL for around 3 years. 2011 to 2014. I was paying around 110 per month for me and my boy.

The weights section was kinda ok.......

The other elements to the club (pool, badminton and tennis courts) made it a nice weekend outing for the family.

Just to chuck iron about though? Waste of money. other indies do it cheaper and better IMO.

That's pretty expensive unless you're going to use all the facilities all the time. If its just weights that you really want there's gotta be better alternatives?

I workout at home with a bench and a set of Bowflex DB's - the only thing I miss is having a power rack to squat in, which doesn't justify the cost of membership to me.

True it won't but £110 per month is crazy money to spend. I pay £26 a month for my local leisure centre which offers everything you mentioned and a good gym albeit I don't live in London so it's not directly comparable but nonetheless there are surely better options.
