David Walliams - half way across channel

Gets my respect for what he is doing, raising a lot of money for charity by this and for that he is a top bloke. :)

Really OcUK should try and do something along these lines, although maybe quite not as big, bet we could raise some money for a good cause quite easily.

The fact that he's doing this for charity makes it worthwhile in my eyes, but the fact that I am utterly terrified of deep water like that makes it seem utterly heroic! :p

Now there's an idea!

I've never enjoyed his work, but he gets a lot of respect for this. Even getting halfway is good going. I'll be interested to see how far he gets.

Fewer people have successfully swum the channel than have climbed Everest. FACT.
Less than 10% of channel swimming attempts are successful. FACT.

I could never do anything as hard as that - I'd just give up half way and swim back to England

Id realise i was going to be in France at the end and purposefully swim half way and then back, ultimately completing the distance of the channel but not having to finish in France. <dodges garlic throwing french members>

You know by putting FACT after each of your facts totally negates them :D

Putting FACT at the end of a sentence negates the meaning. FACT.

See what I did there?

Anyway, both the things I said are true, FACT or no FACT.

I don't think these two things are comparable. Everest is the highest mountain in the world and therefore a challenge for people all over the world.
The English Channel is a waterway between only two nations with populations amounting to less than 150 million people.

It's not just the French and the British who attempt it though.

If you really care about it, text 'David' to 82125, it'll only cost you a quid.

Put it this way, id rather swim the channel than climb up everest.

We already have pretty much :) charity auctions for t-shirts signed by people at meets and Zoltan's collection thread. As well as had a few people that have others have sponsored when they've been doing various things.

Good work by David Walliams, I wish him the best.
