So the second expansion is announced. :D

Here is the announcement from the Dan of War 2 community site.

Dawn of War II: Retribution is being show for the first time to the press this week at Gamescom. Here is the official announcement:
AGOURA HILLS, Calif. August 17, 2010 - THQ Inc. (NASDAQ: THQI) today announced that a second stand-alone expansion for its genre redefining real time strategy game, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2011.

Taking place years after the events in Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising, this title allows players to choose their perspective with the first multiple-race single player campaign in the Dawn of War II series. The first race to be revealed is the savage Orks, but no matter which race is chosen players will be taken on an epic journey through each story arc, revealing the answers to many questions left open in previous Dawn of War titles.

As well as the single player campaign, RetributionTM will feature new multiplayer units, maps and an entire new playable faction when it ships.

Jeff Lydell, Producer of Dawn of War II - Retribution commented: "We all love the Blood Ravens here at Relic Entertainment, but there are also a lot of fans of the other races and armies out there so we decided that Retribution should allow the player the freedom to experience the campaign from the perspective they select."

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Retribution is scheduled to be released for Windows PC in the first quarter of 2011.

About Retribution
It is ten years since the events of Chaos Rising and Sub-Sector Aurelia has been in a constant state of warfare with the Imperium struggling to retain control. The apparent betrayal of the chapter by Gabriel Angelos and his Space Marines has shaken the Blood Ravens and now the Imperial forces are beset on all sides by hostile aliens. Retribution allows the player to select the race of their choosing in a battle to determine the very survival or destruction of the entire sector.

Also confirmed, this is the last expansion pack.
Dawn of war 3 will be released within 18 months after this.

Excited now. Which will be the new race?

Tau probably.
Imperial Guard would not work with the game mechanics (small squads e.t.c)

Orges, Storm Troppers, Cadian Kasrkin Guard, Heavy wep squads, it could wok :D

Allthough Tau is probably the most likely, the tau on their own would get ripped to pieces in melee. Would prefer IG imo

I'm hoping for tau or IG, they are both my favourite. I also think the IG would work, surely it would work just like eldar, except they'd just have a lower pop cap and cheaper units to give the illusion or hundreds of soldiers?

I didn't much care for DoW 2 on release, but it really grew on me. I must have played through three or four times.

This final expansion will go on the pre-order list.

2 didn't grab me really, although I played through for the story. I hope they take a different direction with 3, I want my base building back :(

Ohhh no, i was hoping they would leave this alone, as if i haven't got enough to play, that's my third year down the pan if this comes out during exam period :(

Hmm...inquisition is really just the inquisitors themselves and their pet space marine chapter though. Grey Knights would be interesting if done well.

Not sure whether to just wait for DoW3, 2 was massively rubbish after 1 imo. The engine and mechanics just weren't 40k at all and it was massively lacking in features. I'd like more of a story than a rinse and repeat series of identical battles as well. The Warhammer 40k universe is one of the richest out there so why not make use of it? Get someone good to write the script (ideally Dan Abnett but if not one of the other authors) and bingo.

Only way Guard will work is if they take one of the smaller specialised companies from the mythology, probably Deathworld Veterans of some kind, Catachans and Guant's Ghosts come to mind.

I doubt they'll do another Space Marine chapter, or any imperium based race. Dark Eldar is probably out, so my money's on Tau or Necrons.

Guard worked just fine in Winter Assault, they just need to get rid of the retarded game mechanics the second game used and get back to epic numbers and massive bases!

yeah why not make a 40k epic style rts?? akin to C&C or SupCom. It can work so disgustingly well with masses of tanks and walkers and dreadnoughts and legions of marines, even slap in a titan or 2

Do want! I love the 40K series!
