I've tried doing a search in the forums for this but my attempts so far have bore no fruit.

I'm looking to pick this up, I recently downloaded the demo after my mate raves about it (still) and was hoping to get some LAN games going with him.

However, I see the complete set (The original with all 3 x-pacs) for about 15£ new which is great, but there is no stock anywhere. Has anyone heard any news as to why its out of stock and unavailable anywhere?

Think I may have to end up picking up each game individually which is going to set me back a few more quid :S

Because it's old, rare (not the game, but the complete package) and the sequel is already out? Not dissing it there, it's still a great game, but that's the reason I'd say!

Dawn of war, dark crusade, and winter assault are available on steam for £17 and it saves a lot of faffing around with discs.

You only want the original and Dark Crusade really. Winter Assasult at a pinch and definitely not Soulstorm.

Ill agree up to a point with Soul storm. It was a shame, because i felt the necrons were too overpowered in Dark Crusade.

OP steam is probably your best bet.

The problem with the steam versions is that the games dont seem to work in conjunction with each other and you have to load up the individual expansion pack if you wish to play as a different race. ie. Winter Assault if you wish to play as imperial guard in skirmish/mp

I have the original, Winter Assault and The Dark Crusade (balancing is cack in that though, so it sucks) as Retail, but they aren't installed atm. However I can access all races in skirmish through the Soulstorm that I got through steam back when it was on offer.

I'd get it on steam if I were you...

Personally I preferred Soulstorm to Dark Crusade, the campaign is a bit more focussed setting/story wise. DC is basically a glorified skirmish mode and in the end seemed to be a bit WWI trench warfare like, I'd end up in a situation where even with a maxed out vehicle/squad cap, every single upgrade available purchased etc I couldn't break through a massed Ork defensive line.

Not saying SS necessarily better than the original DoW but it was certainly more polished than DC in my eyes.

Managed to pick up everything but soulstorm on disk for a cheap and cheerful £5.

May try and pick up SS, sounds good that it can be linked in to steam (purchased or even activated with the CD key), having the multi-player skirmish was my main reason to purchase it so what Link says has got me very interested.

A high street music/film store that also has mail order arm has it listed at £24.99 and mentions stock due in 21 days.

Cheaper places might be able to source it even if listed out of stock. As I got Dead Space pretty cheap even though it was listed out of stock at the time.

Don't know if I can mention the names on here or not.

I cant say i gave soulstorm much of a chance, but i think the main problem IRC was that some of the armies were a bit borked. Sisters of mercy and Dark Eldar had some major bugs. I do agree that the balance and single player issues tainted Dark crusade for me.
