Anyone into this, just been playing this for the last few hours, got to say how good it is, still used to the god dam COD4 controls and the fact you don't need to steady/breath to use the sniper!

Anyone have any tips

Haven't played it in awhile... its pretty good mostly but the stupidly over the top recoil and gun spread killed it for me...

Mainly its about learning the positions people use and working out how to attack those positions best, getting the timing right when the enemy leaves their flags uncovered to make good pushes, etc.

Yeha im a frequent player of it.

Hit me up on it :D Steam ID: Slashiem

Umm depending on what kit you play, i mainly play rifleman and support, have different sensitivities, i have around 8 for the support kit and about 5.5 more rifleman. The higher sensitivity help manage recoil but is a pain to aim for the rifleman.

Awesome game for a bit of insta-mania and blood letting. No real tips from me, thertes a lot of fun to be had with the sniper but the games are a lot quicker. I specialise in hunting down snipers and mashing them over the head, so might catch up with ya sometime!

Sorry no tips but I'm enjoying this game too.

I made another thread about where people play. Recommended servers and such. Did you play on a random server or can you recommend a nice playing field

Best thing is learning to control the recoil, with my G5 on max sensitivity I can control the recoil on the MG42 :D provides for funny kills, especially when you get in amongst several enemies :)

Also the BAR and MP44 you can unload an entire clip accurately if you control the recoil, very handy in putting down a combined rush from the enemy, even better in a narrow chokepoint.

Just added you sir, you play allot?

I've played dod for many a year. Used to play in the enemy down league aswell competitvly. Some good servers out there. A few i can recommend are:

Sas ip: 81.19.219.165:27025
Tnp ip: 81.19.209.210:27015
82nd: ip 89.238.160.111:27015
RR ip: 81.19.219.158:27026
DAUK ip: 78.129.202.18:27015

All uk servers with a mix of playing skills and some really nice people running them.

I'm not in any of these clans so no self publicizing involved. I just know a lot of the players on them.

Yeah i normally get about a hour in most days.

Also think about it. Im currently have these installed for DODS

This Hi-Res pack: http://halflife2.filefront.com/file/DoD_Source_High_Definition_Pack_v15;99422

But when it comes to installing do NOT install the player model skins as it causes problems with VAC and get kicked from most of the servers for models being inconsistent, also the sounds in the pack are probably more realistic but i preferred the more beefy sounds of the original.

Im also using this HUD replacement as i find the default to big and cluttered.

There is loads of different HUDs though so i would say look at screenshots and see what you like but i prefer this one to most.

I might give it another whirl if people are playing... tho I'll prolly get frustrated - I was a pretty good DOD player if I do say so myself - but had a hard time with DOD:S coz of the insane recoil and spread - no amount of skill can get you through situations where in DOD you could take on any number of enemy and win with the right level of skill...

This will come over as boasting I know :P but in DOD I could easily achieve 50:1 even 100:1 KDR playing 4 hour runs on the same map on 16+ player servers, and even won against some of the better teams on ED playing 5 v 1 for kicks. Whereas on DOD:S I struggle to keep a 1:1 ratio. My secret was the tommy gun and tap firing.

Ooooo, me and my flatmate we're playing this loads a few months back (before we got left 4 dead). Some of the most fun games are 1 one 1 or 2 on 2 as it stupidly tense when you cant find anyone for ages (or win propperly).

Add me (still pingwing i think) and ill re-install it to my mbp soon :)

Also get good with the assault guns, i think they are the best really (or the snipers)

Can't stand 1v1 in DOD type games... anything less than 6v6 or so and I leave heh.

Ah it only worked when we were both sitting in our living room trying to stop each other seeing our own screens... (and changing maps every 10 mins as some of them got a bit one sided)

I think it's an excellent game but it's a shame there hasn't been any major updated to the game, would be nice if they added some maps with the British campaign at least (leave the Russian campaign for Red Orchestra-cracking game ;))

I beta tested various incarnations of DoD including DoD:S years ago and was a moderator on the Valve DoD forums before everything migrated over to the Steam forums. ;)

Haven't played it in a while though, work commitments got in the way and a lot of people in the clan I was a member of ( [TFS] The Firing Squad ) moved on and went their separate ways.

Was fun at the time though. Still a very good online shooter.

I first started DoD with beta 2.0 with couple of my friends, formed a clan (spite) and I guess we quickly got quite good at it. I think we even won some Clanbase cup and often placing in the top3 in other tournament, it really was a lot of fun. I was never a good shooter but I used cunning tactics during matches and it really worked to our favour. Combination of skilled players and good tacticians :) Still remember some of the clans like the Danish SaH, British SOE, Swedish Rex and BamseCo, Spanish players had one good clan called st or something similar, Germans had quite a few good teams but I can't remember any of them. And then there were our Finnish rivals eclipse and maybe Sota, who never were any good at the game but at least they could always play practice matches with their huge roster.

I still sometimes fire up DoD:S - I think it's still up there with the best multiplayer fps games. The gameplay/shooting mechanics are just top notch and some of the maps are brilliant. Too bad Valve gave up on DoD:S long time ago or it might have better player base, too.

Shame they left out some of the aspects in DOD:S like the british loadout from DOD - they really made for a nice variation - but I can't go back to DOD now the graphics kill me :P
