At what % of the max stable OC do you run your CPU at for daily activities?

I've not been on here for a while and just noticed in my sig the CPU-Z validator showed my chip running 4.1GHz @1.44v but just now when I've checked CPU-Z it turns out I've been running 3.8GHz @1.392v.

It does everything I want plenty quick enough so I'm not gonna push it more than I need to but in terms of reliability-do people continuously run their chips at its max?

Just wondering :)
 
4.5ghz on the spec in sig, back at 4ghz on my i7 930. They both clock down at idle but voltage, (fixed mode) stays constant on the 3770k.
 
I run at 4GHz for general day to day use. Have pushed it to 4.2 for a few days at a time but it wasn't 100% stable and I much prefer to have a set up that just never ever crashes. 4.1 is stable for me but if I ran it at that for 6+ months I'm sure I would start having all sorts of stability issues and have to decrease it to 4ghz anyway. Never good to keep something at it's max for to long.
 
i leave mine at 4.5ghz too, not really tied for any extra it downclocks when idle and only needs 1.23v to get to there although even under water pushes 70c
 
I'm pretty sure I've damaged the memory controller on my 920. That was high voltage and high temperatures (cooling broke and I didn't notice). Run pretty much flat out at 4.2ghz until that happened, run flat out at a bit over 3ghz since.

There are a few other people on here who have managed to somewhat damage processors, but it takes a long time - and considering the rate at which they depreciate anyway, might not matter all that much.

I ran my 920 @4.2ghz for 3 years and it was fine,i never had a broken cooler though

try a full cmos clear and reseat the cpu ect should overclock still,cpu auto shuts down pc at 100c anyway
 
It sat at about 90, 95 degrees or so for a few months at 1.45V QPI and something unwise on Vcore. It'll still overclock, but not as well as it used to, and 12gb of ddr at tight timings is no longer viable. Nasty instabilities - I can get it through IBT at 3.6 or so, but it crashes whenever the memory subsystem is hit hard.

It's OK - mixing high temperatures with high voltages is expected to cause some harm. My water cooling loop failed progressively as one of the tubes blocked up - so the computer sounded fine. Fans ticking over gently, water moving about in the reservoir. I'd stopped looking at temperatures because it was under water. An error.

edit: @OP - the above hasn't put me off. I'll move to x79 at some point and proceed to run it at as high a frequency as I can until it goes obsolete.
 
12gb is a lot,might do better with 6gb

I used 1.35v qpi/vtt for 1600mhz ocz reaper(cpu at 4.2ghz),12gb I used 1.3750v(stock cpu clocks tho) don't think I ever went above 1.4v

cpu v I only needed 1.23v

1.45v isn't that high though,and anything below 1.4v cpu v is fine in my books,seen users on tweaktown run much higher qpi

It does do a lot better with 6gb - and it doesn't matter which set I use. Which is probably supporting evidence for my damaged IMC theory. I'd rather have 12gb than the improved speed.

I also saw people running 1.55 ish on QPI to get 12gb to behave, invariably under water. For cpu voltage I'd guess you were using load line calibration - I chose an extra 0.2 or 0.3V in order to keep load line calibration switched off.

So, yeah - the voltages were high, but not absurd. Temperatures were worse than air cooling though, and I didn't find anyone (else) combining high QPI with bad cooling.
 
Ran my cpu at 4.8Ghz (1.38v I think) for about a year, dropped it down to 4.6Ghz (cant remember the voltage) as I was having some stability issues but I think that was me pushing a 2nd gpu too high and am tempted to bump my cpu back up to 4.8 lol (have hyper-threading enabled too)
 
Ran 2600k at 4.4ghz since launch, I have since changed motherboard and gone upto 4.6. However it can get a little warm so will probably drop back down or try and tighten the voltage a little soon.

I had had it upto to 4.8, which I think is probably as far as it will go - but the temps were ridiculous so no, I would not run my CPU at its 'max' day-to-day.
