Hi Guys

I have a question about the different music formats , I have a zeppelin air and stream my music from itunes on my laptop.

I have a lot of itunes purchases which are in the standard itunes AAC format.

Would I gain anything if I converted them to Apple Lossless (alac) using dbpoweramp?

I have ripped some cds using dbpoweramp into apple lossless and put into itunes as I understand I may get better quality but Im not sure if I would get any benefit from converting itunes purchases to alac?

any help much appreciated:)

You'll gain no benefit from converting a file compressed via a lossy algorithm to one that is lossless.

thanks , I take it you mean the itunes purchases (aac to alac) wont make a difference apart from a bigger file?

What about ripping cds into alac on dbpoweramp and playing them from itunes?

Lossy transcoding actually makes things worse.

That'll work. You can also rip to ALAC directly from iTunes. Press Ctrl+B if you can't see the menu.

Choose Edit > Preferences, click General, and click Import Settings.

yeah I saw you can rip from itunes into alac but I like to use dbpoweramp.

so basically the albums I purchased off itunes and converted to alac could be worse so I should keep them as AAC?

Thanks
