have not been on this site for years - mt regards to everyone - am looking to build a new cruncher based on quad core system what is the best for crunching today Intel or AMD and preferable cheap and made by OCUK

Depends what you want to crunch, all the projects have different requirements.

As Biffa says, projects really vary. Some will crunch on the GPU as well as CPU, and of these some require a NVIDIA card, some ATI. Have a look in the BOINC sticky, all the info you need is there.
