DC Online ps3 and ps4

Hi, I'm trying to play dc online with my son on my ps3 and ps4 but it doesnt seem to allow it. Keeps coming up with linkdead error or not connecting at all.

Is it because both Sony systems are signed in as me or because both are on same network?

Its because both systems are signed in as you, if you sign in on separate accounts you will be able to play together, i do it all the time
