Yes, because the game has been made to specifically compete with WoW...

The MMO sector is still a growing market and just because WoW has the biggest slice of pie does not mean that all other MMO's have to compete with it.

just because WoW has the biggest slice of pie does not mean that all other MMO's have to compete with it.

Doesnt that mean that they will be competing with wow then?... even if they dont want to there are only so many players....

Still, hope its better than City of Heroes...

Not really, if it was another orcs and elves mmo then yes, I'd say it was in competition with wow, as it is a hero/villan mmo it's in competition with the like of City of Heroes/Villans and it's ilk.

Just because it's in the same overall genre doesn't mean it's in direct competition.

It could be good, or it could be a dumbed down console game that fails to be either an action game or an MMO.

Well, I was kinda interested in this until I noticed the logo above the TV. SOE have a hand in this it would seem. Oh well, nevermind...

Looks good. I'm not into the superhero mmo's so I'll pass this one up but I hope it does well. I like the fact you can climb up everything.

It looks ok, I doubt it will tempt any wow players though, needs a lot more work to even compete with wow

Because of WoW, the hardest thing an upcoming MMO faces is trying to change peoples expectations. Not to accept something less than WoW, but to accept something different.

Your first mmo is going to be your favourite. If your first mmo was UO, no other mmo will compare. If your first mmo was EQ, no other mmo will compare. If your first mmo was SWG, no other mmo will compare. EVE, EQ2, LOTRO, Conan, WAR etc etc etc. This is generally what happens.

I bet, if you are reading this and have played an MMO and enjoyed it, that the first one you played was your favourite. That won't be true for everyone of course, but if I were to hold a poll, it would be around 90% correct.

It wasn't that much of a problem with UO and EQ. They didn't have more than 450,000 people playing each one as mmo's were still fairly niche because of their 'geeky' reputation.

With WoW, the effect is far more damaging because it boasts 11 million players. All those players who are playing WoW as their first mmo (and there's A LOT), when evaluating a new MMO, think if it doesn't have the same features and characteristics of WoW it's not for them. If it doesn't have battlegrounds or the same death penalty it is fail. Because nothing beats your first time, and you want the exact same experience again. This happens in every single mmo and it's a shame.

Sorry for the derail.
