DC5 replacement

Hi there

S2000 is not bad at all. Its like anything if your going to press on in the wet then be ready to catch her as they will let go if your too heavy on the throttle. Drive it smoothly in the wet and drive at a speed safe for the condition then its not gonna bite you.

I had a 99 spec S2000, which are regarded as the worse as they are very snappy due to the GEO setup etc.

I believe 2000 onwards cars were a little tamer, 2002 models got a bit tamer again and in 2004 onwards they were made a lot more friendly.

Seriously a blue or black S2000 2004 onwards look awsome. Superb handling, quite raw but could be made even rawer and power upgrades come in the form of superchargers which is something you could save up for or just buy a 2002 car cheap as a project. :)

S2000 hands down for hot sunny days.
M3 E46 for all other days.

It will be a hard choice. :p

Cheers mate. I know what you mean about the "taking it easy" part but I fear I'll lapse one day and get my Teg head on. Even in the dry when driving my mates S2K it took me a while to get the most out of it as I was driving it like my Teg. Once I got that solved it was tail out fun and such a lovely drive. I found myself driving it a lot slower then my Teg though, but that's purely as his is standard and wouldn't stand a chance of keeping up with mine on a track. By no means a bad thing either with 8 points on my license!

My good mate Chris Franklin will be sorting the Geo out on whatever car I get anyway so not bothered what it's like out of the factory.

I wouldn't mind an older one that was registered as PLG for tax purposes and use the change and throw a load of money at it.

Colour will be black; yes it's a bugger to keep clean but nothing beats a freshly waxed black car. :D

It means I won't be paying £400 or whatever it is for the newer S2000's. S2000 kicks out 237 (or close to that) g/km which puts it in the top category. Some early S2000's were registered as PLG which at the moment is only £185.

It really doesnt make any difference tho, with a £15k budget why do you give a stuff whether its 200 quid or 400 quid? It doesn't matter. You'd be mad to turn down say an 04 plate because of this one thing.

237 isn't top category either, its band L.

It's not the money, it's the whole point! :D

Was thinking of a pre 2001 TVR to rub it in. I'm cynical like that. But I would kill myself in one of those.

I'm sure you wouldn't if you took it sensible and learnt how the car drove.

Admittedly a TVR isn't the most sensible starting point for RWD, but what the heck ;)

Good attitude. You only live once and all that. Hmm, it is an interesting possibility. What BHP are they?

Plus, won't it break down every 3 yards?

i dont think the 4.5 cerbera was that bad

Its not exactly Japanese, but it was reasonly low tech. The problems with lots of stuff failing didnt start till the lesser models.

oh and the 4.5 cerb is 420bhp.

420 bhp!

Hmm. Hmm. Very tempting. Is it a death maker if not given respect?

Probably not for me then, I drive too quick on B roads. Nuff said. Hmm, might just ***** a load of cash on it and have the engine built.

If you get it wrong in a FWD car, its usually relatively easy to avoid ending up in a hedge so long as you dont provoke it with lift off oversteer

RWD on the other hand, the back can just slide away from you. Thats why so many VX220 turbos have ended up wrapped round trees.

I've had one 5p 50p moment in my DC5, I found out that they don't drift too well. Coming of a roundabout (the A444 M6 junction heading toward Coventry) too quick in the wet. If you don't know it well or at all then it goes round to the left and downhill on a slightly adverse camber. Left the roandabout at speed and started understeering toward the barrier, front wheels started spinning so diff was no use, so thought life off gently. Well, went back to front and almost smashed her up in the trees on the left but thankfully I managed to control the skid and ended up with a slightly kerbed wheel. Anyway, enough of my bad driving lol.

No, not my cup of tea.

Looks wise? They are stunning to drive. Seriously, the only thing that compares to it that I have driven is the S2000 but that's a completely different car. The DC5 is so focused, so raw and so talented. As I said earlier, after 2 years, it still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I drove the EP3 on a test drive and had that 12 YO kid feeling, the DC5 bettered that by a lot. Unless I drive something that gives me a better feeling (the S2K nigh on matched it, but I have my concerns) I will keep it.

I am very tempted. Also helps that my tuner is a very good friend of mine. Lot of pondering to do. I know I'll lose a lot of money doing it, but, what the hell.

As you've already figured out, the DC5 is such a good car that you're going to struggle to better it. For pure fun, it's right up there with the best of them and the only thing I can think of that I've driven which is even more fun is the Elise 111R although obviously that comes with compromises.

Personally I think that if you enjoy the way the Teg drives then you'll fall in love with the Elise. Try and test drive one with a proper exhaust though as the standard one makes it sounds like a sewing machine.

LOL.

There's a garage here in Salisbury that has some Lotus' in it. Might stop by this week at some point. Cheers.

Is the "Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious" phrase true to it's word though? I don't know any Elise or Exige owners.
