Hi all, my pc recently has been crashing(just shutting down completely then starting up again) and then sometimes I have issues logging back into windows , I’ve checked the event logger and found the error DCOM got error “1084” attempting to start the service , this is followed by multiple different services , a quick google says it’s most likely corrupted files or registry errors after a windows update, from my knowledge I haven’t updated windows recently , is this going to be a re install of windows or is there some way to repair it, im new to pcs so any beginner friendly advice would be greatly appreciated

As a follow up to this I used sfc/scannow command prompt which found corrupted files and successfully repaired them, I loaded my computer back up and started a game up, it happened again , checked the event viewer and found “the game input service terminated unexpectedly” and “the compound game input service was produced with a newer version of storage”

When looking under event viewer if you check system instead of applications do you see anything in there at all?

Could you please list your full PC specs as well

Could you check Windows updates and make sure its fully up to date as well

Also, are you using Windows 10 or Windows 11?

there is a few things here regarding the the game input service terminated unexpectedly but unsure if this applies to your case as it seems to be after a windows update for Windows 11

I checked the system tab, the errors I’ve listed previously were ones that I got under the system tab, I’m using windows 11, and my specs are, 7800x3d , gpu is 7900xtx and my mobo is the Msi b650 tomahawk

I’m also up to date with windows, I also tried repairing with Dism command promp , I’ve used my pc for about an hour now after that and encountered no issues but not sure if this is coincidence or if it has been fixed

When you ran the check disk was it done with the PC in safe mode? Running it under windows normally can lead to files not being repaired successfully or not being repaired at all due to being in use.

Does the crashes happen in all games or is it in 1 game only?
Yeah it was done in safe mode, it seems to happen more when I’ve been playing a game , but that’s all I use for my pc anyway, and it’s not just one game it’s been a couple that I’ve played

There is a recovery section in Windows 11 but the options are

Keep my files - Removes apps and settings but keeps your personal files.
Remove everything - Remove all of your personal files, apps and settings

Have you checked that Windows is fully updated and the link in my first reply?

Do you know when the issue started?

What do you use for storage and does event viewer under system show any NFS errors at all?
Sorry I didn’t see your reply, yes windows is fully updated , and I must have missed your link, it’s only just started in the last sort of week, my storage is a m.2 drive 2tb, and I’m not sure what NFS errors are?

No worries.

Under event viewer > Windows Logs > System there is a column called Source.

Is there any under here that has NFS as the source at all?
Hi bud, did a reset of windows and it’s happened again but I think I’ve now found the right error on event viewer , “fatal hardware error occured” then it says memory event ID and then the source is WHEA-logger, do you have any idea of how to proceed ?

Could you copy and paste the entire event viewer error please?

Also list your full PC specs

Do you have any overclocks on the system?
I will be able tomorrow I’ve come off now I’ve got some other stuff to sort
Pc specs are :
7800x3d
7900xtx
Msi b650 tomahawk Wi-Fi
Deepcool L520 AIO
2x16gb 5600 Corsair vengeance EXPO
2tb m.2 SSD can’t remember make

Only overclock on the system is the RAM , I had EXPO enabled

Fair enough.

When you get time maybe try memtest and see if the ram is ok. Allow this to run for 30 mins to an hour and see if you get any errors.
I did this yesterday, it completed and when my computer restarted it went to the recovery screen, when I managed to log on it said no issues were found, but obv the event viewer said the hardware failure was memory, hoping it’s not the cpu, but I only bought it all in September so if it is cpu or memory failing I may be able to get it replaced

I hope this works and you can see the images, this is the events log, only way I knew how to do it

Worked fine.

I would start with running the memory tests and see if this finds any errors.

You could also try running the ram at stock speeds (Disable EXPO)
Ran the tests and it came up with nothing, I could get memtest86 to boot from the usb, I checked my bios version and there was atleast 3 newer than mine , so I updated my bios and so far today with expo enabled I haven’t encountered any issues
