DCResource(DCRP) has closed!

It's a shame to see this go but one thing thats confused me is the whole "costs" issue with web-based review sites. Do they buy every camera they review (maybe at the beginning) and then after a site gets popular do they start getting "free" cameras to review (loaned from shops for advertising for example)? If they do then shouldn't the costs come down significantly (other than hosting costs). Is that how it works or, to retain their independence, do they still buy cameras instead?

Seems like the guy was offered a job elsewhere more than anything with this.

But yeah ianh, I would think most people trying to do review sites will do whatever they can to review cameras, be that renting them from a shop, buying them, or borrowing from a friend or shop they have a relationship with etc.

As they get bigger, they are likely invited to trade shows and get sent review copies... of course that can also open up the door to questions of impartiality.

These days with so many people doing it, there probably isn't quite the same need for suppliers to give cameras out to everybody and people are likely paying just to go to big shows.

DP Review,DCResource,The Imaging Resource and Steves Digicams are the big 4 English language review websites on the internet and started in the late 1990s. DP Review was bought up by Amazon and is now backed by them.
