DCS:- Black Shark only £11 on D2D!

http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=66&file=1018

a must download

edit I'm not sure I ever downloaded the patch - so maybe the above isn't needed if patched (shows how long I last played it)

btw - for comedy try starting the engines manually

I've watched the tutorial MANY times, and still can't quite get it right, its about 90 steps (!!!) - it joyfully tells you at the end that a proper pilot can do it in about 40 seconds or something stupidly quick

Well worth the money, you lot are lucky i bought it when it was first released for something like £40 lol many many hours of fun, oh and just as many hours learning how to get it off the ground in one piece.

Workin fine here mate, Win7 64bit.

Was watching the tutorials when it said "have a go".. hehe

Ended up 1500ft up, going backwards, saying to myself "Oh Sh**!!" much to the bemusement of the wife.

Joystick is a must, as is a photographic memory to remember startup!!! Jeeez

So if I buy this from D2D do I need to have their software running in the background like Steam or they will just let me download the game and use it as I please?

Direct 2 Drive does not have a client as such. You normally use their downloader to get the game, but it installs like any other exe. Activate it using the code and you don't then need anything else, and it doesn't phone home either. Only issue is patching. To patch you have to wait for the D2D specific patch which they only release on their website and then it doesn't auto update either... a bit cumbersome but it does work OK.

I patched using the download from DCS site.. I haevn't tried to play yet, but does this mean I've borked my install (and effectively wasted an activation?)

When you activate the game (i.e. first run after install) it will phone home, but that's it. :)
