DD-WRT on a Linksys WRT54GS (version 6) router and Virgin Media 20Mb

I flashed my router with the DD-WRT micro build last year as I kept losing internet access and having to reboot the router and modem to reconnect which with hindsight I now know was due to the startup frequency of the DX100 modem being out.

Anyway, the other day I moved onto the Virgin Media 20Mb service and can only pull down between 10 and 10.3Mbps. My upload is fine at 768kbps.

I've now discovered that this may be due to DD-WRT and have ordered a 20m network cable to go from the modem to the PC to test out a direct connection (as I'm too lazy to move the PC upstairs).

Has anybody else any experience with this router, firmware and ISP and if so is there a quick fix? Does the original Linksys firmware allow for the full 20Mb download speed?

I'm guessing you were using wireless before. I know WPA2 can take a fair bit off the throughput. I've seen figures as low as 15Mbps for 802.11g. Only way to sort that out would be to either move back to WPA or overclock the router (which I don't suggest you do). Personally, I think the best idea is to obtain the results from your direct modem test first and then go from there.
