DD-WRT Problems

I flashed my routers firmware yesterday afternoon from the original Linksys to DD-WRT latest version. I've been experiencing some weird problems ever since. Connection speed is suddenly very temperamental and eratic and seems to jump between anything from less than 1MB to 4MB.

If I punch 192.168.1.1 into my browser to load the router interface, it sometimes takes an absolute age and often displays a text only interface. Browsing around and trying to change settings has become near impossible and i've had to reset the router (either by switching the power off or restoring to factory default settings) about 3 or 4 times already.

My connection before hand was near perfect and the only reason I upgraded the firmware was for static DHCP leasing. If I reset the router then I can access the interface no problem, but there's not a chance that i'm gonna reset the router 4 times a day just to keep a stable connection.

Have I flashed it to the wrong version of DD-WRT? Any ideas what could be causing this? I'm assuming that if worst comes to worst I can stick the old firmware back on it?

TIA :)

It's a WRT54GL v1.1 and I flashed it with v23 SP2 standard. I can't tell you exactly which file i used to flash it as i can't get on the DD-WRT website but i think it may have been the generic.bin if that makes sense. The connection is absolutely awful at the mo, one second it's working and the next it's not. If i ping google then i get a couple of good responses then a long list of request timed out etc.

I changed the channel back to 13 as we we have 2 PC's connected wirelessly and 1 wired into the router.

:(

Funnily enough, that's the guide I used to flash the router as I wasn't 100% sure on what to do. It's behaving a bit better now but the connection still keeps dropping every now and then. Any suggestions for different firmware to try? Thanks Mr Sniper ;)

I've actually just flashed it back to the default linksys firmware which i got off their website. It feels a million times better, i can actually access the router settings now and the connection isn't hanging. Only difference was that i flashed it using a different PC wired into the router as the cable was looking dodgy from the one i originally did it from. It's actually really put me off using anything other than the default firmware though. Is there really much of an advantage using DD-WRT?
