dd-wrt with virgin

Nothing.

Assuming you have the DIR-615, then it's just a case of using the WAN port in the router for the connection to the modem. Other than that, it just "works".

I don't use dd-wrt I use tomato, which I assume will have similar settings. All you need to do is make sure the WAN port is set to DHCP as all connection details are sent from virgin to the WAN port using DHCP, and if you have an option for MTU, just leave it at the default (which I think should be 1500).

Thanks for the replies! You were right.

It managed to get itself working in the end, after a few reboots and resets.

Well I'm not impressed with this firmware

Usenet speeds have gone from a solid 2.33MB/s down to just 1.57MB/s max. Same with various speedtests.

I guess I shouldn't have fixed what wasn't broken. Complete waste of time.

Are you sure it's the fw? I flashed to DD-WRT on my 615 and was getting 50Mbps rock solid (about 6.2MB/sec). Did you flash to the factory then to the full release? Did you remember to erase the NVRAM and restore to factory settings afterward?

I found DD-WRT too bloated and it fell over too often, so I went back to the D-Link firmware. Still a crap router, so I'm saving for a replacement.

I'm glad I'm not alone, I found the DD-WRT firmware to be bloated and prone to falling over both on the D Link router and the Linksys WRT54GL.

I have recently put DD_WRT on my 615 and really impressed so far...QoS works a treat, which is very important for my needs. Being able to set QoS status by MAC is a dream.

I followed a guide on lifehacker...pretty useful stuff

What router are you saving up for? I currently have the WRT54GS running Tomato and I think it struggles handling numerous connections created by torrents.

Since I'm on 50mbit, I would like to see the speed, but browsing slows down when torrents are running :(

A WNR3500L most likely, as not only does it ace the class at SmallNetBuilder for throughput and simultaneous connections, but it can run Tomato too. :)

Good evening,

I've yet to have 50mb broadband installed but do you think it would be worth getting a new router in advance or seeing how it goes with the one VM provide first?

Also, what is 'tomato'?

Set up QoS. It's changed my life...well, not really, but it's made everything a great deal better!

I have QoS set up, but it doesn't help that much. I followed this guide:

I got my 50mbit installed a few weeks ago, and haven't even opened the VM one because its so ****! I have been using my old WRT54GS, but will probably buy the WNR3500L as Rainmaker mentioned.

Tomato is open source firmware made for a range of routers, and has more features and is updated more regularly than the manufacturer's own firmware.

I built a Atom router running PFSense and then used the 615 in AP mode that handlles stupid amounts of torrents at once only ever managed to make it it 40% cpu load and about similar in ram use
