I've got hold of a 18w Laing DDC - 1T Plus. I've managed to pwm mod it but was wondering if there was any need to fit a heat sink, I have heard they can run hot

depends on your load, if your running it at high rpm then it will get abit warm, aslong as you have enough air flow around the pump you should be ok, but i think they look better with a heatsink attached, not only does it look better but will provide a better heat transfer to keep it cooler, if its a EK one you like then for £16 you cant go wrong. Other people will have different opinions but thats mine.:)

Not sure if will be running flat out. As I got the pwn function working I will have the option to throttle it back. I think the heat sinks do look better than the plastic case and will aid in mounting the pump/res.

I could buy a laser thermometer, would only use it once but it is another gadget, and a man can never own too many gadgets

The DDC does look good with Heatsink on, most people with that pump you will find instal the EK or bitspower version, it was one of the first things i got along with a swiftech mpc35x and bitspower multi res and ddc mod kit, of which im waiting for it to be delivered. :)
