DDC mod for PWM control

Hello, I have a Laing DDC-1 plus T 18W pump.

I've just read about someone that tried to add PWM control by soldering on a couple of wires (my pump only has one for RPM readout) but they failed.

Continuing my research found someone claiming the 10W version ISN'T moddable but the 18W version IS capable of PWM control with some soldering.

Anyone done this or know of this?

Because it's loud.

I didn't want to drone on about what I've done with it but it's running on 5 volts, 7 volts didn't work (I'm sure I've got that the right way around). It's inaudible now but I'd like the option of PWM if it's do-able.

Plus I'm hoping to add a universal GPU block soon and I think 5 volts isn't going to be enough.

Shouldn't be loud is my point. I've had 3 and still have 2, none have been audible. How is it mounted to your case? They do vibrate of course so if that vibration is carrying through to something else that could cause noise. Mine always have a foam base and mounted to the bottom of the case using spring-loaded screws.

I made a makeshift "shoggy sandwich" and it just rests on top of that.

I've read reviews and it is the loudest of the pumps, the D5 is quieter although bigger

I can only hear my 10w @ 12v when the PC is idleing with the fans off, everyone else is out / asleep and the tv in the other room is off. general background noise drowns it out. the fridge is louder when the compressor kicks in even with the kitchen door shut.

Mine is mounted with cable ties and bits of cut up camping mat lol.

lol mine is made from a dish cloth - sponge type one, and a car wash sponge for the middle.

I did this. With 3 pums 2 worked and one smoked out. They was all the same pump and model.

oh dear. I'm thinking of getting an Alphacool pump top/reservoir - the Ice station solo (I don't know how to do that basket thing). That should help with the noise, if not it'll tidy my loop up anyway.
