I upgraded my 4gb to 8gb about 2months after building my system 2yrs ago even tho I knew 8gb wouldnt come into use for ages, because I knew ram prices were going to shoot up at some point.. I think I piad about £30-£40 for 4gb of corsair PC2-6400.

While it probably doesn't apply to their DDR2 line, I've gone right off OCZ since receiving two duff batches of their DDR3-1600, one which was DoA, one which doesn't run at it's rated speeds :(

And yer, I wish I'd bought 8 gig when I built this rig, cos it went up £20 in the 2 months I was waiting to see what the price did :o

It was the same with ddr1, that was pretty expensive anyway, I think it was like £70-£80 for 1gb of cosair xms mem, But when DDR1 was comming to its end, 1gb of corsair XMS costed something like £120 and 2gb was like £160-£190

I upgraded my 1gb to 2gb when ddr1 was about finished, and it costed me £170. So on every build I do from now on, Im going to go overboard with the mem, cos its cheaper in the long run and you dont have to bother about upgrading the memory again on the current build.

Edit: Eddiew I see that youve still got a 8800gt, my 3870 is roughly the same speed as a 8800gt, and it still runs all the latest games with ease at 1280x1024, my 3870 even runs BC2 on high detail with ease... 3870 and 8800gt cards still rock:cool:

Yes you can buy 2 sets, but why not buy just the one ? I didn't notice any difference going from 4 to 8.

Yeah I just started a thread for 'Windows 7 64-bit - What's the point' because I'd been running Vista 64-bit on 8Gig of RAM and when I switched back to 4Gig I noticed absolutely no difference.

Plus I don't use applications that require that much RAM so didn't really see the need to move to 64-bit after having driver issues on Vista 64. Sounds like a lot of the 64-bit driver issues have had time to be ironed out now though.

I managed to get 8 Gig for a great price, but that extra 4Gig is just sitting in an anti-static bag till I need it now.
