Hey,
I upgrade only every 2 - 4 years so when I do I future proof as much as possible. I have 4gb DDR 3 OCZ platinum 2000mhz ram, one of the best you can get but people keep recommending and talking about getting ddr2. I As I understand it ddr2 has less bandwidth but more speed, ddr3 isn't yet common place and not optimzed re : software yet.
Cheers.:)

No idea where you got all of that.

DDR2 runs at 1.8v, DDR3 runs at 1.5v. The end result is DDR3 runs at higher speeds than DDR2, but other than that theres no major difference beyond price.

If you were to buy a 2Gb stick of DDR2 PC8500 and a stick of DDR3 8500 RAM they would work at exactly the same speeds.

The only difference is DDR3's design allows it to scale much higher than DDR2. SO where DDR3 can scale to PC10600 and beyond, DDR2 cannot because it's at the limits of the technoligy.
