DDR2 1066 Question

hi question regarding DDR2 1066MHz ram, say i was using this mobo Asus M4A785D-M Pro AMD 785G

and something like a phenom 550 BE or phenon II X3 720

if i were to put the sticks in would it run at 1066Mhz by default, the reason i ask is because i have heard many storys of people saying PC8500 ram is just PC6400 ram which is overclocked. I have also heard many people saying they brought PC8500 and were unable to get it to 1066Mhz and had to leave it at 800Mhz.

I imagine this is a very noobish question so sorry in advance

PC8500 is overclocked pc6400 I beleive and in most cases you will need to manualy setup the speed in the BIOS anlong with timmings and voltage.

Thanks for the reply, thats the impression i got, so it doesnt come preoverlocked? If thats the case i dont see why you'd pay the extra for PC8500

i think ill just go for the PC6400 to save myself the hassle of messing around with timings and all that. Thanks for the quick response
