ddr2 4200 ?

With what system? Core 2 Duo uses FSB that would be in sync with PC4200 so if you wanted to run it at or below stock then no, you couldn't.
 
i have this ram and board =/ can i get away with oc the ram or is that a big no no

The board has scored well..
the cpu is supposed to be a good oc..

But i have kvr533 ddr2 kingston...

I'd imagine a mild overclock on the RAM wouldn't pose a great problem even for generic stuff, like 30 - 40 Mhz, but I'm not too sure tbh.

2 days ill have 667 so it dont really matter now..

No problem :) I have no idea what dividers are like on those systems but maybe you could use one to keep the RAM near spec? Would need to ask a (core 2 duo) overclocker or have a good look around in the BIOS :p
 
I picked up some generic PC-4300 to use in my C2D rig while waiting for the proper RAM to be replaced... and it overclocks quite well - its spec is 533MHz @ 4-4-4-15 but it runs perfectly happily at 667 with 4-4-4-12 timings (much to my suprise) and 800Mhz at 5-5-5-15 (or might have been 5-5-5-17) with a slight voltage bump - as its value RAM with no heat spreaders it gets a tad warm at 800MHz and probably wouldn't remain stable for hours of use but it passed memtest86+ a couple of times with no errors and ran through 3D Marks 03 without crashing...

Once I've got the proper RAM for this rig I might grab a couple of heat spreaders and a fan for cooling and see what this stuff can really do... don't wanna kill it atm tho.

Just out of interest at 533 default timings it does 5300/1375 in everest with a latency of 77.2 and at 667 does 5700/1900 with a latency of 68 - proper PC2-8000 or similiar RAM with tighter timings should manage closer to twice those bandwidth figures.
 
Kingston pc4200 value ram rocks :eek: I run mine at 1.9v day to day 24/7 at 355mhz (ddr2-710). I only paid £52 per 1gig sticks. Could probably sell them on the members market for more than I paid for them. Sweet sticks with a nice lifetime guarantee. Not many people know about the overclockability of these sticks, so keep it to yourself. Price of sticks are now about £80 per 1 gig.

PCI bus speed should be set to 33mhz as most hard disks don't like to be overclocked.
PCI-express speed is set to 100mhz by default but you can adjust in bios if your bios supports it.

KVR ram rocks but people just don't know about it because it is seen as basic value ram but it can be tweaked. Also KVR also can have micron d9 chips as well :D
