Hello all
About to upgrade to an X2 from a single core AMD64 so thought I'd get myself some better RAM at the same time, but unfortunately my mobo is rubbish and only supports VDIMM of 1.95v. Even with the latest BIOS it's the same story, it's just one of those sucky boards. As almost all decent PC6400 is rated over 1.95 this is a bit of a problem. I had a problem with fast OCZ stuff before so had to go for a lame 533 kit when I built the system a year ago.

I'd like to go for the Geil 2Gb kit on special offer atm (GX22GB6400DC), which on OcUk says 1.8 - 1.9 but on the Geil website it says 1.8 - 2.2. Does anyone know for sure if it will work at the full 800 MHz at 1.95? No point in buying it if I just have to clock it down to 667 :(

If this wont work, can someone recommend an 800MHz kit that will? Oh and just in case, I dont particularly want to voltmod my mobo.

Cheers

No clue but the basic Asus AM2 mobos (cant remember model but Im told they are discontinued) I used on a few builds had issue as ram volts was 1.95v max I think and most ram is rated for 2.1v, it ran though but not ideal if you OC or even offically run stock but it did run.

Hmmm not ideal is it? I would have thought they'd support DDR2 better being as, at the time I built my machine, it was the only reason to go AM2. Does anyone have a DDR2 800 MHz system that runs reliably at 1.95v?

If I'm not even able to run PC 6400 on a reasonably new system I might just dump AMD and go with a whole new build, perhaps using a company that doesn't mess about with it's customers so much...

The mobos with low ram volts were and most stores do not stock them now unless they dont have high turnover.
The M2N-E is what I use now for customers builds now and they have higher ram voltage, at least 2.1v anyhow probably more.

The mobo should be fine with your ram and some Dominator can run as low as 1.9v officially but my mobo defaults it to 1.8v and its fine but I simply up volts to 2.1v to be safe.

Start again, its because I cant find the mobo for sale now and mixed up with all damn model names.

I used to use M2N-E's but correct ram volts is not even Jedec offical 2.1v for ddr2, I now use M2N-SLI Deluxe's, they cost bit more but gain SLi / 1394 and better ram volts.

Sorry for misinfo been up for nights with my own PC No Swearing! and my heads busting.

Heh, no probs mate I know the feeling.

I've managed to find a list of 100% certified compatible 800MHz RAM for my mobo, there's only like 5 different compatible ones there coz of the lame voltage. I would just buy the Geil stuff and hope for the best but I know how picky this board is I dont want to anger it

Not sure it's worth all this effort tbh, well done AMD/Asus for pushing me into the arms of the competition after only a year...

Ah well, cheers anyway helmut.
