DDR2 - backwards compatible?

Sorry for the noobish question, but can i put DDR2 in my A8N-SLI Premium?
I understand that if i can, it'll only run at DDR1 speeds.

I'm afraid not.
DDR, DDR2 & DDR3 all use different physical slots.
You cannot use any of these in slots not designed for that technology.
DDR slots will over ever take DDR modules, not DD2 or DDR3
