DDR2 Gaming rig...

Oh yeah, newbe5, I am also looking to maybe getting ( dependent on reviews) a Samsung SM-T260HD 26" LCD Monitor/TV/Freeview hybrid thing. But it does have a 6ms response time which is a little worrying.

Core 2 Duo's are better for gaming, they don't take advantage of Quad Core CPU's yet.

However, if you clock the Q6600 at 3.2GHz, once games DO start using the extra cores, you'll have an extra 6.4GHz to play with, that's my reasoning behind getting the Q6600.

I'm not saying that is definitely the right way to go, but with games like Alan Wake coming out that WILL use all 4 cores properly, I can't help but think that the two extra cores are worth having.

Also, the 4870 x2 has been proven to run better on quad chips than on duo's due to the overhead the card requires to run properly.
 
Defo with you on the wheres and whys of your choice of GPU. Check out that TV thing. what do you reckon. BTW Q6600 on offer at mo`

Honestly no idea on the screen. I have a Dell 24" screen (can't be bothered to look round the back for the model number :P) But they do quite a few, and I know that one of the other 24" screens that they do, which is almost identical to mine in appearance, is actually not very good at all for games (while mine is absolutely fantastic), so you have to be really careful.

Read plenty of reviews before splashing out on a new screen, bigger doesn't always mean better.

Edit: I got bored and checked, my screen is a Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP 24in Widescreen. By that reckoning this screen should be the newer version of mine, although I wouldn't take that on faith.

Personally, I have 2 of the 24" Dell screens (same model), one at home and one at work. I love them, and couldn't fault them at all. Also, since I've been using them, I've come to the conclusion that anything larger would just be excessive, I almost have to turn my head to see the extremities of the screen (rather than just move my eyes) as it is. It's entirely up to you, but given the price difference, I'd be more than happy with buying another 24" any day.

Wont be making a purchase untill reviews have been read. The one thing that has been putting me off that Hybrid TV thing was its response rate (been lucky and only played on low response time monitors) but your Dell seems to run at the same RT 6ms. So do you have any probs with ghosting , motion blur on yours ?.
Appreciate what you say about the screen poss being at bit big, and having to move my head more than just my eyes. mmmhh, more thought required.
 
Here's something I've learned about monitors. Ignore the on-paper specifications, they don't actually mean all that much in reality.

Read reviews, lots of them, you can often find that a screen with great specs on paper ends up sucking big time in reality, while one with mediocre specs actually performs like an absolute gem.

The Dell 24" (2 of them) that I have are the best screens I have ever used. Fantastic for work, gaming, the lot. No ghosting, blur, annoyance. Nothing but joy.
