Hi guys.

I haven't really been following DDR3 to much but was wondering if there is any point yet?

I'm getting the upgrade bug and thinking 8gb of ddr2 8500 (the ocz stuff ocuk just got in) or maybe 4gb of ddr3 1333 for about the same price.

Gonna pair this with a DFI LANPARTY LT X38-T2R (ddr2) or X48-T3R (ddr3) or something very similar.

CPU will be either a q6600 g0 or a q9450. and yessums im thinking of overclocking, say 3ghz+ hopefully 3.4ghz+ on air.

Basically will I see any kind of noticable gain with the ddr3? I know the 8500 ddr2 is more than i need to OC to the range im thinking. It's more things like system response, boot time, gaming performance and maybe "futurproofing" I'm thinking of.

I think I here that ddr2 8500 and ddr3 1333 perform about the same due to latency issues and such but am unsure.

Will want the base of this system to last about 3 years.

:)

Thanks guys, input apreciated.

the 1333 being the new 4200 was basicly what i was thinking anyway.

I was also thinking that the premium i would pay on lightning fast ddr3 would more than likely buy me a high end ddr3 mobo when ddr3 is at ddr2 prices.

so yeah ill just get the fastest (well almost) ddr2 i can get my hands on i recon.

as for the 4gb vs 8gb im still torn on this.. i expect nothing from gaming performance and am not suprised with the slight loss of performance with all the extra memory to map. just like in gfx cards when the ati 9800pro/xt 256mb first hit and lower scores/performance was seen in every game which just didnt use the extra 128mb. ofcourse that changed with the new games eventually. I am wondering if this may be the case with 4gb vs 8gb of ram. ofcourse i can buy more ram later if i like :P

what i was actually thinking about was aplication switching, in and out of game. i really want that lightning fast, im wondering if the extra ram will help with that?

there is also the ram disk option which im thinking about playing with.

any numbers, thoughts on system response?
