I don't usually ask for help on component buying but it's been a while since buying main system parts & I'm at a point where I can upgrade my system

Would I feel much difference going from
socket 775 Q9650 @ 3.8ghz with ddr2 @ 900 5,5,5,18
to
socket 1156 i5 750 which I'll overclock as far as I sensibly can with prolimatech megahalems with ddr3 @ 1600 6,8,6,24
I do know the cpu matches round about the same performance when the i5 is overclocked so it's mostly the difference in ram I'm curious about.
Does good spec ddr3 offer good noticeable improvements over ddr2 for gaming?.
