DDR2 vs DDR3 question?

I don't usually ask for help on component buying but it's been a while since buying main system parts & I'm at a point where I can upgrade my system .

Would I feel much difference going from
socket 775 Q9650 @ 3.8ghz with ddr2 @ 900 5,5,5,18
to
socket 1156 i5 750 which I'll overclock as far as I sensibly can with prolimatech megahalems with ddr3 @ 1600 6,8,6,24

I do know the cpu matches round about the same performance when the i5 is overclocked so it's mostly the difference in ram I'm curious about.
Does good spec ddr3 offer good noticeable improvements over ddr2 for gaming?.

In a word, no. Not alone. Would you feel the difference with the whole upgrade from a quad to an i7 rig.... for gaming, not really no. Gaming on the PC is still heavily dependant on the GFX card.

unless both systems were identical builds then its most likley its just that one machine had a clean build or there was some other reason...

Just a different motherboard. M3A79-T Deluxe to Crosshair IV Formula. Going from DDR2 1066MHz 5.5.5.15.2T to DDR3 1600MHz 7.7.7.20.2T was faster in windows 7 home premium 64bit and xp home 32bit and i noticed quicker level load times in Crysis. That's what i noticed.

I didn't notice any difference between my quad core DDR2 to my i7 DDR3. The main factor was my graphics card.
