I'm upgrading my system and need help choosing ram.
It'll be for running 3DS Max, Photoshop, Video Editing and the other usual MS Office, internet, playing music etc.
I've opted for a i7 940 proc, with a Noctua NH-U12P heatsink all put onto a Supermicro X6SAX mobo.
I'm not intending to overclock this machine, but I am confused about the memory that will be best suited for it and my applications.
I'm going to be putting in 12gb of ram.
Crucial do a 6gb memory kit which is non-ecc, ddr3-1066, 1.5v and sells around £80.
They also do a 6gb highspeed ram kit, non-ecc ddr3-1333, 1.65v and sells for £180.
So for an extra £200 I can have the highspeed ram - but what will it give me ?
According to what I have read, the i7 940 processor supports non-ecc ddr3-1066, so what would the point be of getting the highspeed stuff if I'm not going to overclock ??
If I didn't overclock and put the faster ram in, would I notice any difference (the mobo supports upto ddr-1333, the processor doesn't).
Please advise, I'm not an expert in all of this, though I have no problem building systems/installing OS's etc.
Many thanks,
Jez.
