I am considering either the monster deal on the X48 Blackops or possibly moving to an AMD AM3/DDR3 setup. Both of these settups support dual channel DDR3. So my question is this...
If I were to buy 4gb of dual channel DDR3 (2 x 2gb) and then later moved to i7, could I then add a further two sticks to take it to 6gb (2 x 3gb) in tri channel mode?
In other words is the RAM itself hard wired to work in dual/tri channel? Has anyone tried this? I am reluctant to move to dual channel DDR3 if I then have to move to tri channel in the future.
