hi guys

few weeks ago i bought an MSI P35 Diamond B Grade (tested and working ;)) for 12p but as far as I am aware it only takes DDR3 800/1066/1333.

This leads me onto my question, and I am on a tight budget too .. what RAM do I buy for this mobo? Are there likely to be large cuts for ddr3 when nehalem surfaces? When will this be? I really only want to spend about £60 on the RAM in all honesty so do I just go for the cheapest 2GB set of DDR3?

thanks

Cheers for the replies guys ...

atm i'm thinking Q6600 for all round performance and future-proofing, and I will be overclocking it.

@ WJ, will the mobo support 1600mhz ram? Looking at what it supports it's only 800/1066/1333 .. assuming it's in mhz ?

Yes, it's like any overclocked component - the motherboard will boot the system at stock speeds - so probably 1066MHz CPU/1333MHz RAM. Then set the divider as usual and clock away. You should be able to get 3.6GHz on the Q6600 with the RAM still at stock speeds. Mind you, it would need to be as I think that RAM is CAS9 or something!

So if I was to buy 2GB of 1600mhz stuff from a competitor for £80 then I'd be able to use it at those speeds no probs with my mobo? and it's worth the extra cost over a set of 1333mhz stuff?

thanks!
