DDR3 is it really worth it now?

I am upgrading right now I have my mind set on DDR3 not just for today but for the future in mind.

I will probably get 2GB because 4GB is too much at the moment
but would you get DDR2 now or DDR3?(bearing in mind the future the most)

Justify please!!

Nice to get all your general thoughts but it is this Nehalem that I would be looking to get eventually.

But the problem with this if I don't get a DDR3 board right now I will have to rip open my case and change the whole board to accommodate for this type of memory. I am sure there are a lot of people on here who wish to upgrade now wondering about all of this.

At the moment I am using the old PC2100 type memory and I am very sure even with low end DDR3 I would see a significant performance improvement.
