the netbook is a hp mini 311c

Ah, it may be the case that the soldered-in RAM is only rated to 533MHz effective (which is what yours is currently running at), hence your new 2GB stick drops down to this level.

cant see any options in the bios to change ram

bios version is F.02 or something i think theres a version F.16 now dono if that gives more options but i wouldn't know how to go about upgrading

as u can see nothing in slot 2

Then I guess it's your 1gb soldered RAM limiting the speeds. Any chance you can take the 2gb RAM stick out and check the soldered RAM speeds and timings?

533mhz is still pretty good for a netbook.

isnt it suppose to be 1066mhz tho? i also ran everest memory speed test and im getting slower speeds then others with 2gb ram installed ;s

what slowdowns will this cause in everyday usage? will it effect hd streams etc

So the soldered RAM can run 1066mhz?

Do your everyday activities, and see how it feels. If it feels slower, then you have a problem. But really, you shouldn't be able to see a significant difference between 1066mhz and 533mhz.

EDIT: I did some googling, at it seems it does run at 1066mhz. That means it should allow the 2gb stick run at 1066mhz too. Are you sure that Corsair RAM is 100% compatible with your netbook? This could be another reason why the speed is halved.

EDIT 2: Ok, after some more research, it seems the soldered RAM can run at 1066, but HP's BIOS purposely locks it to 533mhz. In other words, your system is already running the RAM at the max speed the BIOS allows. You can't do anything about this then...
