DDR3 question

No, Double Data Rate RAM runs at twice the FSB speed. DDR did it, DDR2 does it, and DDR3 does/will do it. The diffrence between DDR1/2/3 is that as the versions increase they are able to perform at higher frequencies. DDR topped out around 250 MHz. DDR2 was slow in the beginning but is now running at 1200+ MHz. DDR3, with some time to mature, will go even faster. I wouldn't say that DDR3 is a good deal for now. Let the technology mature more.

No, DDR3 has advantages in terms of power consumption and something to do with an 8 bit pre-fetch [source: Wikipedia iirc] allowing faster theoretical data transfer. But it's not "triple data rate".

I read somewhere that the new Asus P35 boards will support it so at least if you buy with that chipset you can upgrade to DDR3 when the price drops. When DDR2 started selling it was mad money now look at price drop in last few months.

You need a board with DDR3 slots as it's not pin compatible with DDR2. There's a couple of boards that have both but not many.
