Does anyone know whether or not DDR3, when it's released commercially, will be supported in the same memory slot and by current hardware, or is it likely to need a complete change in hardware??

I think the new AMD 64s support it in all but having the right shape sockets...
Can't remember where I saw this though :/

Only way will be if Asrock release a board that supports more than one format I expect. Obviously a DDR3 DIMM is not going to work in an existing DDR/DDR2 slot... that's just common sense. :)

I would have thought it was pretty "obvious" what I was getting at ;).

It was a response to your arrogant sarcastic reply to my question, a question that was asked innocently and in the hope of receiving an honest reply rather than some smart-arsed "don't you know that" comment from a typical forum geek.

Clearer for you?

There was nothing dishonest about my reply. :D

On a related note, does anyone know when DDR3 will be hitting the market?
At some point I'll want to move away from S939 but if DDR3 is coming this year I'll probably wait until then.

I've heard rumours of the secondhalf of 2007 but to be honest I can't really see it coming by the end of the year with the DDR2 market being so strong. I would guess early 2008...

I heard later this year aswell.

DDR3 is looking at speeds from 1.4 GHz - 1.8GHz, from what i've read somewere. Pritty fast, probably get a lot faster than that aswell tbh, saying as there's DDR2 1.2 GHz RAM coming to OcUK soon
