Thinking of buying some new ram for a build for myself now ive go 2 in mind

1/ Team Group 2Gb DDR2 PC2-9600 (1200MHz) 5-5-5-15

2/ Cellshock 2gb (2x1gb) 1800mhz DDR3 CL8 - CS3222580

Ta for looking :)

Maybe the Q6600 GO or one of the new intel cpus x48 motherboard.

Saying that now that the 8800GT cards are out i may go sli again.

There is certainly no real reason to move to DDR3 at the moment.
In fact with the current pricing it is difficult justifying such a move.
Saying that there is no real reason not to make the move - the current timing on DDR3 should not be compared to that of DDR2, the technology is different.

Basically no reason to move to DDR3, no reason not to.
Price (really low DDR2-6400) may be the deciding factor.

Theres little point buying any RAM faster than PC2-6400 (unless you need the faster speed for 1:1 overclocking) as you will get absolutely no real world benefits.

I have not heard that X48 is going to support SLI  Skull Trail will but, that is an entirely different beast. Has anyone here heard about SLI support on an Intel desktop chipset?

It was a case of getting a sli board now with sli or waiting till the x48 came out and not bother with sli. :D

If it was me, I'd wait to see what 780i and 790i are going to be like before deciding. I guess it depends on how much of a hurry you are in. DDR3 is still very expensive due to low IC yeilds and low volume but, it is definitely the fastest stuff on the planet.

X48 won't be around until Q1 2008.......it could be over 3 months away....thats a lot of heat damage to that there pocket :p

I am in a similar boat, I can spec everything except the motherboard and RAM, due to the X38 V P35 issues with DDR2 Vs DDR3.

I also have a little ticking clock as someone has offered me £400 for my base unit (see sig) and I can't really turn that sort of money down.

Hehe aye that would be nice :)

Think im going to buy Cell shock DDR3 and the Asus Maximus Extreme and Q6600 GO and maybe a GT.
