DDR4 advice for new OC rig.

I'm planning on buying the Asus Maximus X hero Z370 with a Coffee lake 8700K.
I'll probably use a old Prolimatech Megahalems air cooler to see how good my 8700K can do on that alone. Then after that see how much further my watercooling might push it.
I also really hope I win the lottery on the 8700K. My intent is 5 GHZ but 4.8-4.9 will do aswell. This is for 12/7 use.

My build is intended for gaming on ultra wide Quad HD up to 120hz and bench testing.

That being said, I'm stuck in choosing what memory I really want. I really want to know, what is best?
I've been on a search and have read some benchmarks, reviews and comparisons but haven't really found out what memory I would like to buy. Most of these tests were up to 3000mhz and faster is obviously faster albeit it negligible.

I know there are plenty of good choices out there but I'm on a cherry picking journey.
Maybe someone can help me pick the best cherry?

I kind of want the best of the best in terms of performance and OC potential without going ridiculously overboard spending dozens of extra quid only to gain the most negligible diminishing returns in bench tests.
I think 3200mhz through 3600mhz DDR4 is really the highest I should want to go using the aforementioned motherboard.

I know there is lots of options out there. But in the meanwhile I stuck my choice on the....

G-Skill Trident Z series 2x8GB F4-3600C15D-16GTZ

The reason for this kit is that it's 3600mhz. And the reason for that reason is that I find it negligible to go higher, others may say that limit is lower but 3600mhz is where I would cap at concerning memory freq choices and the motherboard choice also.

I find more just isn't worth it in getting the most out of it.
It also has some pretty low latency as advertised (CL15). Not sure what that means in actual bench tests or true latency which is information I wished I would find but haven't.
That's because I haven't found bench tests with the aforementioned kit in the 3600mhz frequency range. But maybe you do know a review that's to my liking?

1st Question: What are you guys opinion about this set of memory sticks and can anyone answer any specifics to the above?

They're okay and should work, but what are your experiences or in case of lack thereof guesses in terms of overclocking potential? Maybe there are experience reviews that may direct me towards choosing a different kit. Can I do better then these in the 3200 - 3600mhz range? I wish there was a DDR4 OC test review on Z370 platform already but can't find it. This is probably the best place to be told where to find this.

These memory sticks are supported on the Maximus X hero Z370 as shown here.

However...

While I'm willing to buy the 1 kit 2x DIMM slots for a total of 16 GB memory the QVL list shows that they haven't been tested in 4 DIMM slots for a 2 kit = 32gb solution.
I'm building this system with the intent of surviving 3-5 years. I don't know about future requirements in triple A games. But I would want to upgrade to 24 or even 32 GB in the future (next year or so).

2nd Question: How do I know whether the motherboard supports these sticks into the 4 DIMM slots if it's listed as unsupported?
I know the QVL lists aren't always up to date. The 4 DIMM slots may just not have been tested with the memory modules I'm willing to buy, so equipping all 4 slots may just work. But according to the list I have no guarantee.

Does anybody know whether it will work?
I always thought that if memory sticks in 2 DIMM slots worked that 4 of them in 4 slots would also always work. I'm right aren't I? Aren't these lists confusing then? Or is it really true that some kits only work in 2 but not in 4 DIMM slots?
Not sure what the technical limitations might be that divides the requirements between 2 separate kits allowing some of them to be expanded in 4 slots and others being limited to 2 slots, but it's pretty lame if you ask me.

There are no particular bench tests I'm aiming for.

Obviously all the available stability memory tests and also most of all the performance bench tests. But I'm not intending to score highest in a specific application.

Any comment, question and/or advice is welcome.

Final note: You may find this topic a little bit vague.

I've always had trouble deciding what RAM to buy. Motherboard has set of features making the decision of which one to buy easy. Deciding what CPU to buy and that is a similar story also.
But RAM? So many choices. And then it is my intent to overclock and then there are so many options out there.
For all intents and purposes this thread should be targeted and helping me to make up my mind.
Is the aforementioned kit a good choice for overclocking or are you certain there is a better choice?

Thanks!

EDIT: Sorry for the length of it. I probably could have been a little bit more direct but only realized after posting lol. Sorry for this, it won't happen again :p

Most of not all DDR4 kits for sale here will be absolutely fine I wouldn't worry about compatability too much.

16gb is still loads for games so I'd get a 2x8gb set.

As for speed and timings.. The higher speed sets can give only small improvement for extra cost.
Personally I'd just get a 3000mhz or 3200mhz set, enable XMP and forget about it.
