Hi there,

Currently planning a new build to coincide with the 980ti HOFs landing early next month, but I'm still struggling to decide on memory :o

Motherboard-wise, I'm going with the X99 SOC Champion - with either a 5820k or a 5930k.

Here are the kits I'm currently looking at - any help or advice much appreciated!

G.Skill Ripjaws 4 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C15 3000MHz Quad Channel Kit - Red (F4-3000C15Q-16GRR) Hynix, and on offer this week. Though the red would clash a bit with the Champion (and the black seems to be sold out everywhere).

Kingston Predator 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-21300C13 2666MHz Quad Channel Kit - Black (HX426C13PB2K4/16) Looking at the 2666MHz kit because I've heard quite a few people say it's (generally) slightly better binned than the other Predator kits. Thoughts?

ADATA 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 3333 (PC4-26600) Quad Channel Kit Gold Edition Model AX4U3333W4G16-QGZ Almost certainly Hynix (though haven't been able to completely confirm), but seems an awesome clocker regardless. Pricey, and has the single ugliest heatsink in the world, however.

Was also vaguely looking at:

G.Skill Ripjaws 4 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz Quad Channel Kit - Black (F4-3200C16Q-16GRKD) But heard it's Samsung, as opposed to Hynix...

If it is of any help to you I have the Gskill 3200 kit (superb) and mine is Hynix, that does not mean that maybe there are some kits out there using Samsung, but I would have thought they would use all the same chips - so Hynix.

Im in the same boat pretty much quwange. Getting the below spec on the 24th from Ocuk. Memory I have been told has very little difference from any of the slower to the faster kits. I am going with 32gb of this I think https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-098-AR .Will see whats on offer that week, thats defo your best bet mate. That memory has been on offer a few times at £150 per set, so that would save me £100 if bought in the sale, massive difference.
out of the ones you have selected, I quite like the look of the Kingston Predators.

Haha I think you've probably got my dream kit! My understanding (and I could be wrong) is that 3200 F4-3200C16Q kit OcUK have on offer this week is Samsung; but the 3200 F4-3200C15Q, is Hynix. Is the cas 15 kit the one you you have?

Sadly, I can't find the G.Skill 3200 cas 15 anywhere....except that auction site - where it's over $500 including shipping and customs! Would be all over it (or any Hynix 3333 Cas 16) if I could find them at a decent price.

Nice spec! The X99 5P is an awesome looking board. Was looking at that myself before I went with the SOC Champion - and the Avexir RAM is the nicest looking kit (imo) if you're matching it with a black and red board. Shame there's no orange (like the DDR3 kits) to match the Champion.

But yeah, will definitely keep an eye out for weekly offers. I think the Predators look pretty cool, too. To be honest, I know there's not a huge difference when it comes to gaming etc, but I'd like to do some benching/tweaking too - and the Champion seems a good board to get some crazy speeds, if you have a decent kit.

For me it was between the X99 5P and the SOC Champion too. You can also pick up an Ethoo Primo in black and orange to go with it, and I was going to do that. I decided on using SP140 red LED fans in the case so it swayed my decision hehe. I think the SOC Champion board looks great though with the orange.

Edit - Setup your trust and send me a trust message with your Steam ID mate if you want. Will be good to have a chat properly with someone who's in the same boat.

I was not aware that there was a cas 15 of these rams from gskill - thought they only made one set at 3200. My part number is F4-3200C16Q-16GRKD, unless of course they have updated the kit? so mine are not Cas 15. They cost me £449 though just after launch, early adopters always pay through the nose.

They have come down in price substantially - but the other kits are all good. If you don't fancy the G skill the Kingston predators look good.

From what i have read there is little to be gaining by faster memory on ddr4 or even overclocking them unless you are after overclocking titles.

so i went for HyperX FURY 16 GB 2666 MHz DDR4 CL15 DIMM Memory Kit (4 x 4 GB Modules) for £119.

Will run at 3000Mhz at 13-15-15-33 and 1.3v so who needs more?

I used to go for the best myself but not anymore esp at stupid ddr4 prices.

Anything above 3000Mhz and CL13 is never going to be noticed.

Hmmm that's interesting. Although the cynic in me wonders if they switched the kit to Samsung once the price fell. It would definitely be the kit I'd go for now if I knew it was definitely Hynix, like yours...but I've seen some people on OCN claiming some are Samsung. Interested if 8 Pack has any idea about the OcUK stock?

But yeah, unless I can find out for sure about the G.Skill 3200 kit, I'm possibly leaning towards the Predators.

No honestly, I completely agree - outside of synthetics, it makes very little difference. I've seen a few (less GPU bound) games where you can gain a tiny bit - but even that all but disappears as you raise the resolution.

I guess I just quite fancied a kit with some head room to play around with - even if the gains are minimal. I'm coming from a Samsung Green DDR3 kit, and that was quite a fun kit to tweak back in the day. But yeah, there probably are more important things I could be spending (wasting) money on :D

The best bang for buck is 3000mhz Kingston Predators for sure. I am using these for benching and several 24/7 systems with great results.

GSKILL 3200 is still Hynix and quality is always good but expense is high.

GSKILL 3000 is not as good as Predators I personally have found. Kingston are really on it with DDR4 and at 3000 you get a better kit with Kingston.

ADATA I did not like on testing.

Cheers 8 Pack :) Will definitely go with the 3000MHz Predators if you rate them so highly.

Actually quite relieved you were unimpressed by the ADATA's - looking at them again, I'm not sure I could face paying £260 for a kit with such an awful-looking heat spreader :o

Lol @ Adata comment - I agree though.
